Sharon Stone, the Wayans brothers and Vancouver’s Uwe Boll are in the running – whether they like it or not – for this year’s Razzie Awards, which yesterday unveiled its nominations for the worst work seen on the big screen in 2006.
Stone and her poorly received Basic Instinct 2 are nominated in seven categories, including worst picture, which also singled out Little Man, a B.C. service shoot starring Shawn and Marlon Wayans, and Boll’s videogame adaptation BloodRayne. The category is rounded out by Wicker Man, also shot in B.C., and Lady in the Water.
BloodRayne, shot in Romania with B.C.’s Brightlight Pictures, got five other unfortunate nods: worst actress for star Kristanna Loken, worst supporting actor for Ben Kingsley, worst supporting actress for Michelle Rodriquez, worst screenplay, and worst director for Boll. It is in second place behind Basic Instinct and Little Man, which are tied with seven nominations each.
Boll was also nominated as worst director at last year’s Razzies for Alone in the Dark, though the dubious honor went to John Mallory Asher for helming the Jenny McCarthy comedy Dirty Love.
BloodRayne bombed upon its U.S. release this time last year, earning between US$2 million and US$3 million.
The Golden Rasberry ‘winners’ will be announced on Feb. 24, one day before the Oscars, and are based on votes by Razzie Foundation members. Boll and Brightlight shot a BloodRayne sequel in B.C. this winter.
