Priestley helms MOW

Calgary – Nomadic Pictures has reteamed with Jason Priestley, putting the teen idol-turned-actor in the director’s chair for the MOW Don’t Cry Now, a reworking of the Joy Fielding book for Lifetime and Corus Entertainment.

Calgary-based Nomadic cast Priestley in its 2005 Murder in the Presidio, and both have been eager to pair up again, says producer Chad Oakes.

‘Jason’s been a friend for five years,’ says Oakes, phoning in from the set. ‘We’ve been trying to find something we could do together that he could direct.

‘He’s a perfect fit,’ he adds. ‘People will see a lot more of him, not just as an actor, when this is released’ in June on Lifetime, followed by Corus’ Movie Central and W Network.

The story follows a woman whose life unravels after the brutal murder of her husband’s ex-wife, reworked from the novel by David Schultz (Jet Boy). It stars Leslie Hope (24), Cameron Bancroft (24) and Jann Arden, as the victim. Priestley also makes an appearance.

Oakes produces on an ‘average’ budget with his partner Mike Frislev, under Fielding, who exec produces. Nomadic distributes in Canada while Randwell Distribution handles foreign sales.
