Ubisoft has announced plans for a massive expansion of its Montreal studio that will see the game-making giant invest as much as $454.1 million over the next six years — looking to roughly double its workforce to about 3,000 people by 2013.
The company also plans to build a new production center specializing in digital cinema.
Ubisoft CEO and cofounder Yves Guillemot unveiled the plans in Montreal, flanked by Quebec Premier Jean Charest, Jean-Pierre Blackburn, the federal minister for labor and economic development, and other dignitaries.
‘In 1997 Ubisoft made the decision to wager on Quebec’s immense creative potential,’ said Guillemot in a release. ‘Ten years later, the Montreal studio has been the driving force behind the conception and development of legendary brands.’
The studio is best known for the successful Prince of Persia franchise, and is working on the new title Assassin’s Creed.
