Rosenberg departs Serendipity Point

Being Julia producer Julia Rosenberg has exited Serendipity Point Films to found her own company, January Films. But she isn’t going far. The new outfit will operate out of Serendipity’s Toronto offices, just down the hall from her former boss Robert Lantos.

‘Robert has been my boss and mentor for years,’ says Rosenberg. ‘Now he’s just my mentor.’

The split is amicable and by no means complete. Rosenberg says she will continue to oversee Lantos’ development slate and may produce future Serendipity projects. Lantos is not directly attached to her company.

January Films is ‘not a genre-driven company,’ she says. ‘I’m not looking for a specific type of film or TV project. I just want to work with people with really strong talent.’

Rosenberg joined as a producer and as head of development when Lantos founded Serendipity in 1998, going on to work on features including Being Julia, Men With Brooms, Ararat and the upcoming Movie Network/Movie Central series G-Spot.
