Magnetic North acquires Casablanca

The great Toronto post-production shuffle continues as post facility Magnetic North has acquired cross-town rival Casablanca from Alliance Atlantis Communications.

The deal makes Mag North a considerably bigger player in the Toronto market, as Casablanca comes with a strong reputation on the audio side.

AAC has been looking to unload its three post interests for a couple of years. After a long-in-the-works deal to sell all three to Hollywood’s Point.360 fell through, a group led by Rob Power bought Halifax’s Salter Street Digital from AAC earlier this year, renaming it PowerPost Production. AAC still owns Toronto animation and FX house Calibre Digital Pictures.

The newly formed entity will be called Casablanca Magnetic North, with a focus on episodic TV and plans to expand, according to a statement.
