CBC cuts another current affairs show

After three years on-air, CBC current affairs program Disclosure will not be renewed for a fourth season, marking the second cut to the pubcaster’s current-affairs lineup. In March, CBC announced that this would be the last season for debate-style talk show counterSpin, which has been running for six years.

In a memo to staff issued April 2, executive director of network programming Slawko Klymkiw and CBC News editor-in-chief Tony Burman cited poor ratings and tough financial times for Disclosure’s cancellation. Thirty-six staff work on the show.

‘There are many challenges in launching a new prime-time program in a very competitive television environment,’ the memo said. ‘One is the difficulty of consistently reaching appropriately large audiences. Unfortunately, over the past three seasons, CBC News: Disclosure did not fully achieve our expectations in this regard.’

Disclosure attracted an average 450,000 viewers, but this season the audience dipped to around 350,000.
