Spirits at Bardel Entertainment are soaring after the Vancouver animation house’s Silverwing series recorded healthy numbers in its out-of-Canada debut on Copenhagen’s TV 2 Danmark last month.
Silverwing, which depicts the 2D-animated adventures of a teenaged bat, scored well with the eight-to-14 set with a 6.1 rating and 42.3 share for its Dec. 7 debut, Bardel reports. TV 2 simultaneously rolled out an accompanying gaming website in the same manner that Teletoon did in Canada, and saw 4,500 Danish users log on in the first 10 days.
Meanwhile, Canal+ picked up Bardel’s Leo Award-winning The Christmas Orange for its recent holiday lineup. The half-hour special is about a boy who gets in a tizzy when his only gift under the Christmas tree is an orange, and he proceeds to sue Santa. Canal+’s reach ensured the show was viewed in France, Switzerland, Africa and Mauritius. Closer to home, ABC Family slated it for a repeat viewing after a 2002 debut.
Meanwhile, Studioworks Entertainment licensed North American home video and distribution rights for The Christmas Orange in time for the holidays, and in-flight movie deals were struck with Spafax Inflight Media on behalf of Air Canada and Delta Airlines. Emphasis Video Entertainment in Hong Kong has also picked up Orange for all of its Malaysia Airline flights until Jan. 31.
