Global is set to import more reality-ish TV from Down Under, now that it has the format rights to The Block – a popular home renovation series. The show takes real-life couples and moves them into a condominium complex, where they are given a set time and budget to redo their units. The condos are then sold at public auction and whichever couple brings in the highest price, wins.
The original was a smash for Australia’s Channel 9, and brought more than three million viewers, about 53% of that country’s TV audience, to its 90-minute finale in August.
Global must have high hopes for the series, because it also bought the rights to carry the Fox version. The U.S. net recently announced its plans to air its own version of the show, rechristened The Complex, sometime in the coming year.
