La Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) has selected 13 projects for production support as part of its emerging creation assistance program.
The selected projects were chosen from 20 applicants that had previously received funding from the development portion of the program.
Among the 13 selections are one feature-length documentary, three short documentaries and nine short fiction films, including the winner of SODEC’s Cours écrire ton court competition regional edition. The short film screenwriting competition, organized in collaboration with Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma, the Saguenay International Short Film Festival and the Société des auteurs de radio, télévision et cinéma, sees the winner receive a grand prize of in-kind services and financial support worth approximately $130,000 as well as a fast track to production.
This year’s winner was Jeanne Carrière for her script Bigfoot, which she also directs. The short film is produced by Montreal-based prodco Romeo et Fils.
The feature documentary is Du blé pour Sainte-Barbe (Les Films Extérieur Jour), written and directed by Ariel St-Louis Lamoureux and distributed by Les Films Ritual.
Two of the scripted short films are animated: La mort de la reine (Embuscade Films), written and directed by Sylvie-Anne Ménard; and Monsieur White (Objectif 9), written and directed by Phania Jean-Baptiste and distributed by Montreal’s Filmoption International.
The other short films include Nuit blanche (Coop Vidéo de Montréal), written and directed by Aucéane Roux; Pink Moon (Inaru Films), written and directed by Leila Khalilzadeh; and The Pregnancy Test (Les Productions Compass), written and directed by Holly Brace-Lavoie and distributed by Montreal-based La Distributrice de Films.
Rounding out the short fiction selections is Le mystère de l’abbé Metz (Major Productions), written and directed by Félix Brouillet and distributed by Montreal-based Welcome Aboard; La serre (Social T developpement strategique), written and directed by Pierre-Luc Racine; and Koden’n (Colonelle Films), written and directed by Daniel Cherubin.
The three short documentaries selected are: Celle qui entend (Pourquoi Productions), written and directed by Myriam Guimond and distributed by Welcome Aboard; Corps-à-corps (Némésis Films), written and directed by Romane Garant Chartrand and distributed by Trois-Rivières-based Travelling; and the animated documentary Que notre voix l’emporte, written and directed by Marianne Khayat, produced by Montreal-based Creation Haus’ Studio NILOC, and distributed by Welcome Aboard.
