Longstanding Toronto production house Radke Films and its offshoot Steam Films have set up shop in Vancouver.
Radke has taken over the vacated Park City Film Company space, and Steam’s Michael Haldane heads the West Coast office for both companies as executive producer.
According to Haldane, the move to Vancouver is ‘so we can provide production services to our affiliates that shoot in Vancouver and also to take advantage of its agency work, which is some of the best in the country.’
Radke executive producer Scott Mackenzie says although some may question the wisdom of business expansion in the midst of a slow commercial market, opening the new operation makes perfect sense to Radke brass.
‘You have to make your move when you can,’ says Mackenzie. ‘I look at Vancouver as a growth market for us. There is more opportunity for our directors.’
The new offices opened in mid-August.
