Pinewood reaffirms studio commitment

The U.K.’s Pinewood Shepperton Studios has reportedly reaffirmed its commitment to the proposed Toronto Film/Media Complex destined for Toronto’s port lands, in the wake of partner California-based Sequence Development Group dropping out of the project. Pinewood will serve as the studio’s operator when it becomes operational.

According to the Toronto Economic Development Corporation, Pinewood’s continuing commitment to the project was stated during a phone conversation in late April between Pinewood CEO Ivan Dunleavy and Toronto City Councilor Mike Feldman, who sits on the TEDCO board of directors.

TEDCO is currently initiating a proposal call to investors/developers who may be interested in taking on the project, and president/CEO Jeffrey Steiner has stated the organization hopes to find a new investor/developer within the year.

Sequence withdrew its partnership on the project, citing the lack of commercial tenancies and credit support as reasons.
