Heaton honored for underwater work
Pauline Heaton will be presented with the Women In Film Kodak Vision Award for excellence in cinematography at a ceremony in Los Angeles June 3. WIF will be awarding Heaton’s body of work as an underwater cinematographer.
Heaton’s company, Watervision, handles much of the underwater production photography in Canada. She has served as DOP on such film projects as Leolo, Jumanji, Lake Placid and Andre the Seal, and TV series including The X-Files and Due South.
Heaton won a Genie Award for the cinematography of Magic in the Water (1995). She also produced A Last Wild Salmon, a one-hour doc for Global shot almost entirely underwater.
Heaton and Watervision are also credited with the invention of the Aqualight, which utilizes dome port technology, thus eliminating ‘hot spots’ by boosting color saturation to portray natural light underwater.
Quebec anglos to be surveyed
The Quebec Community Groups Network has just received funding from Canadian Heritage and Telefilm Canada to develop a profile on English-speaking film and TV producers in Quebec, and assess their needs through an online survey. All English-speaking producers in Quebec are invited to participate.
Based in Quebec City, the QCGN, a network of English-speaking community groups throughout the province, supports the development and enhancement of English-language minority communities in Quebec. Kirwan Cox, an independent consultant, will undertake the survey for the QCGN.
Producers wishing to participate in this anonymous survey are invited to send their name and e-mail address to: astrolabe@sympatico.ca.
