C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures has been contracted to work on the first fully animated feature by Steve ‘Spaz’ Williams – the much-celebrated Sheridan College grad who introduced Steven Spielberg to the now-famous CG dinosaurs of Jurassic Park.
C.O.R.E. managing director and CFO Ron Estey confirmed that a deal has been signed but would not elaborate. The effects house (X-Men, The Time Machine) announced earlier this month that it is hiring ‘for all positions’ and plans to announce details sometime closer to summer.
Williams is currently attached to San Francisco-based commercial and film house Complete Pandemonium, which in 2001 signed a five-year first-look development deal with Pandemonium, the similarly named but otherwise unconnected company headed by Bill Mechanic, the former head of Fox Studios.
Williams helped convince Spielberg to embrace CG animation and worked various effects jobs on The Mask, The Abyss, Spawn and Terminator 2.
His most recent work includes a popular line of ads for Blockbuster Video featuring a talking guinea pig and rabbit.
