King mentors at Doc Studio

Six of Canada’s most promising documentary filmmakers have been chosen to participate in the inaugural year of The Documentary Studio. Conceived by celebrated filmmaker Allan King (Warrendale), the Studio aims to promote and mentor emerging doc makers. Drawing on his extensive experience in documentary film, King seeks to guide participants through the process of producing innovative and commercially viable Canadian documentary content.

Through the Studio, each participant will be led from development to distribution on an original documentary with a budget no higher than $160,000. The Studio will secure broadcast licences.

The inaugural documentaries are: Paul Perrier’s Melody Ranch: The Last Matinee, Jessica Wise’s Self Love, Susan Murray’s Orphaned in Exile: The Unaccompanied Children of Tibet, Maria Teresa Larrain’s Ode to the Jaguar, Marjan Radjavi’s Parvaneh and Ilan Saragosti’s Confessions of a Sit-up King.
