Two Canuck DOPs were nominated and one snagged a prize at the 15th annual American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards, held Feb. 18 in Los Angeles.
Toronto-based DOP Rene Ohashi was the big winner in the category of MOW/miniseries/pilot for cable or pay-TV for his work on The Crossing, an MOW directed by Robert Harmon and produced by A&E Network and Columbia TriStar Television Production in association with Chris/Rose Productions.
Ohashi has previously won seven Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards, eight Gemini Awards, and counts among his credits the Anne of Green Gables series and the Quebec feature La Florida. He beat out a highly competitive field including Vittorio Storaro, Oscar-winner for The Last Emperor, Reds and Apocalypse Now, and North Vancouver-based lensman Robert McLachlan, who was nominated for High Noon, a TBS Superstation remake of the classic Gary Cooper western.
Winners are chosen by the approximately 225 active members of the ASC. * -www.cinematographer.com
