• Corus Entertainment has appointed Michael Harris general manager of The Canadian Documentary Channel, effective Feb. 6.

Harris was previously the executive director of regulatory policy for cbc English television. A 20-year veteran of television, his experience also includes positions as head of CBC Newsworld and managing editor of The Journal.

cdc is a partnership of Corus Entertainment, cbc, the National Film Board and four Canadian documentary producers – Barna-Alper Productions, CineNova Productions, Galafilm and Omni Film Productions.

• Lina G. Allard has been appointed director general of Tele des Arts. She has been director of Radio-Canada’s public affairs programming since 1991. The tda consortium includes src, Tele-Quebec, Bell Globemedia, arte – France and L’Equipe Spectra. The new specialty service is slated to launch this fall.

• Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival has appointed David McIntosh and Janice Tufford as Canadian programmers for the festival’s 2001 edition, running April 30 to May 6 in Toronto.

McIntosh and Tufford will program the reconfigured Canadian Spectrum program, selecting works from a pool of more than 350 submissions from across Canada.

• Pat Ferns, president and ceo of the Banff Television Foundation, has appointed 10 new members to the foundation’s international board of governors. They are: John Cassaday, president and ceo, Corus Entertainment; Katsuji Ebisawa, president, nhk, Japan; Charles Falzon, ceo, Catalyst Entertainment; Doris Girard, president-director general, Tele-Quebec; Jean-Pierre Hoss, director general, Centre National du Cinema, France; Lim Hock Chuan, ceo, Singapore Broadcasting Authority; Jobst Plog, intendant, ndr, Germany; Marc Tellier, president, Sympatico-Lycos; David Tenzer, agent, Creative Artists Agency; and Gerhard Weis, general intendant, orf, Austria.

• Kelsey Grammer, star of Paramount Television’s hit show Frasier, will be honored with the Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Network Award at the 22nd annual Banff Television Festival. The award recognizes outstanding creative achievement in television. Previous winners include John Candy, Barry Humphries, Bob Newhart, Martin Short and Tracey Ullman. •
