* CHUM Ltd. has promoted Jay Switzer to the post of president, CHUM Television. Switzer will oversee all of chum’s local television stations and specialty channels as well as the new media division, ChumCity Interactive, and the company’s distribution and development arm, ChumCity International. Switzer will remain active in programming strategy, particularly the development of new Canadian feature films.
* Paul Buron has been appointed senior vp and cfo of TVA Group, effective Dec. 11. Buron is the former vp, finance for Logistec.
Real Germain is named interim vp news and public affairs at tva. Germain, former director of public affairs for tva, takes over from Marc Blondeau, who held the post since 1995. Blondeau succeeds Jean Pare as president of Editions Rogers Media and publisher of influential monthly magazine L’Actualite.
* Domenic Vivolo has been named executive vp, programming, marketing and sales for Astral Media’s pay-tv networks, including TMN-The Movie Network, Moviepix and Viewers Choice Canada. Vivolo is former executive vp of SkyDome.
* Radio-Canada has named Richard Portelance gm, sales and marketing for television. He started Nov. 27.
