CBC, Chum create film fund

CBC and Chum Television have joined forces to spend at least $2 million to prelicense and develop mows and feature films from Canadian independent producers.

The initiative, which will span the next three years, will support projects that will air on both networks, with cbc and Chum alternating first and second runs.

‘Given the federal government’s $100-million commitment to feature film, we believe this initiative will make a significant difference to Canadian feature filmmakers,’ says Diane Boehme, director of independent production for Chum Television.

Together, cbc and Chum have more than 250 Canadian films under licence.

‘The synergy of our new relationship will further benefit the Canadian filmmaking community and enable us to deliver even more high-quality Canadian drama to our diverse audiences across the country,’ says Deborah Bernstein, executive director of arts and entertainment programming for cbc. *
