Angela hits theatres

Angela Anaconda, the short, launched in theatres across North America Oct. 6 as a prelude to Digimon: The Movie.

The Angela short is released by Digimon distrib Twentieth Century Fox and Saban Entertainment, and made in conjunction with Fox Family. The story follows a despairing Angela who waits in line forever to get in to see Digimon: The Movie while her rival, Nanette Manoir, breezes into the theatre without a hitch. Determined to outdo Nanette, Angela digi-evolves into Angelemon, saves the world and conquers Ninnimon.

Like the series, produced by Decode Entertainment with C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, the short is animated in a 2D cut-and-paste style.

The idea for the short came from Fox Family, Angela’s u.s. broadcaster, which was looking for a publicity vehicle to drive the series, says Decode spokesperson Jacqueline Nuwame, adding there’s been been some interest in pursuing Angela for a feature, but nothing has been confirmed.

Beth Stevenson serves as producer, with John Mariella as coproducer.

Executive producers include creators Sue Rose and Joanna Ferrone, Steven DeNure and Neil Court.

In addition to Fox Family in the u.s., Angela Anaconda, the series, airs on Teletoon in Canada and worldwide in such markets as Germany, Hong Kong and Latin America. *
