Crave’s TV adaptation of the hit Canadian film Bon Cop, Bad Cop is now in production in Quebec.
The 6 x 60-minute series, first announced in June 2023, is a continuation of the 2006 action-comedy film of the same name and its 2016 sequel, which became Canada’s highest-grossing film with more than $12 million at the box office. The series is produced by Montreal’s Jesse Films and PaNik Fiction in collaboration with Bell Media.
Filming began at the end of May and will continue until September in Wendake, Que., Montreal and the Gaspé Peninsula, a Bell Media spokesperson told Playback Daily.
Patrick Huard (pictured right), who starred in and co-wrote the original film, is among the series directors, along with Miryam Bouchard, Anik Jean and Daniel “Podz” Grou. Huard also leads the writing team, which includes Suzie Bouchard, Éric K. Boulianne, Sébastien Ravary, Benoît Chartier, Michel Jean and Quentin Condo. Jean also composed original music for the series.
Huard is reprising his role from films, while Henry Czerny (pictured left) steps into the role originated by Colm Feore, who had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts, according to the spokesperson. Sarah-Jeanne Labrosse is also reprising her role.
The series also stars Joshua Odjick, Christine Beaulieu, Nathaniel Arcand, Robin-Joël Cool, Antoine Vézina, Wayne Charles Baker, Irdens Exantus, Nathan Jean-Huard, Charles-Aubey Houde, Brenda Odjick, Josée Bourgeois and Liam Condo.
The cast are joined by drag queens Rita Baga, Mona de Grenoble, Barbada, Bobépine and Bambi Dextrous.
Bon Cop, Bad Cop follows police officers who are investigating the disappearance of a band chief in an Indigenous community in the Gaspé Peninsula.
“The series returns to the roots of what inspired the first film: the clash of cultures and personalities, with the added bonus of the clash of generations and the importance of territory,” said Huard in a statement.
Bon Cop, Bad Cop will premiere on Crave in 2026.
