*Septieme Porte wins at FIFA
The France/Germany/Hungary coproduction La Septieme Porte/The Seventh Door – Peter Eotvos has won the Pratt & Whitney Canada Grand Prize as the top film in competition at the 18th International Festival of Films on Art.
The portrait of Eotvos, a prominent Hungarian composer and orchestra leader, was directed by Judit Kele.
The $5,000 Telefilm Canada Award for best Canadian work went to veteran director Werner Volkmer for the Aquilon Film doc A la recherche de Louis Archambault, a portrait of the little-known Quebec sculptor.
fifa winners were announced at the festival’s closing night gala, Sunday, March 19. The program was in Quebec City, March 23-26, with additional but as yet unconfirmed dates for New York and Ottawa. This year’s event drew 16,000.
*CBSC forms national council
The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council has formed a National Council to respond to public complaints relating to its specialty service members.
Previously, such complaints were dealt with by the CBSC Regional Council, present in five regions across the country.
Ten Canadians have been appointed to the new National Council. Representing the broadcast industry are Sarah Crawford, Elizabeth Duffy-MacLean, Jennifer Fong, Al MacKay and Sheldon Teicher. Representing the public are Meg Hogarth, Catherine Murray, Fo Niemi, Peter O’Neill and Howard Pawly.
