Vancouver: They were married for nine months and it took just as long to draw up the divorce papers. On Jan. 19, Rainmaker Entertainment Group finally split officially with Pacific Motion Pictures.
Essentially, Rainmaker sold pmp back to its original owners – Tom Rowe and Matthew O’Connor – and pmp’s parent company The Railway Film Centre. The split was held up by negotiation details, says Rainmaker, which recorded a loss last summer on its financials because of the split. Rainmaker says it will actually recover some of that write-down in the final papers.
In the meantime, the potential purchase of pmp by Sextant Entertainment lives on. Calls to pmp are forwarded to Sextant. But Sextant principal Michelle Gahagan maintains the two companies are still only discussing a merger.
In November, Sextant announced its intent to buy pmp, among other companies.
