*Alliance Atlantis buys Relative Values

Alliance Atlantis Motion Picture Distribution has acquired the rights to Eric Styles’ (Dreaming of Joseph Lees) Relative Values for Canada and the u.k.

The film, which satirizes the British post-war class system, was produced by Christopher Milburn for Midsummer Films, written by Paul Rattigan and Michael Walker, and stars Julie Andrews, Jeanne Tripplehorn and William Baldwin.

Overseas Films is handling international sales.

*BBC World in Canada

The BBC World news channel will be seen widely in Canada, thanks to the British net’s dealings with some of Canada’s major digital and satellite television distributors. BBC World reports it is in the final stages of negotiations with Shaw Digital Cable, Star Choice, Rogers Digital Choice and the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance. Not entirely new to Canadian audiences, BBC World is already offered by servers Bell ExpressVu and Look tv. With the new deals, the bbc could be seen in as many as 500,000 Canadian households.

*Telefilm moves

In an effort to reduce overhead costs and, thus, maximize its investment in the Canadian television, film and multimedia industry, Telefilm Canada head office, located in Montreal, has moved to a historical building in Old Montreal.

Telefilm has also moved its Vancouver and Halifax offices for similar reasons.

‘Over the past three years, our average administrative costs have represented less than 9% of our commitments, and we intend to work to remain below this benchmark,’ says exec director Francois Macerola.

*YTV nomination wave

The deadline for nominations for the 11th annual YAA!-YTV Achievement Awards (www.ytv.com/yaa) is Friday, Nov. 5.

Nominations can be made in 12 categories and winners will appear on ytv and receive a $3,000 honorarium for an activity in their category. Nominees must be 19 years old or younger.
