History launches theme nights for fall

History Television is introducing primetime theme nights as part of its fall schedule launch.

The new theme nights begin with 20th Century Mondays, presenting programs relating to the last 100 years of history which explore critical events and dominant figures, followed by Ancient History Tuesdays, featuring archaeology, ancient civilizations and cultures and emphasizing stunning cinematography and exotic locations.

Canadian History Wednesdays present signature series The Canadians: Biographies of a Nation, History Lands and A Scattering of Seeds.

History of War Thursdays centre on past conflicts, major battles and personal acts of heroism. This themed block will include War Stories, hosted by Lloyd Robertson, who will present new documentaries on the Nuremberg trials, the Battle of Midway and U-boat attacks on North America’s shores.

A number of themed weeks are also being planned for the upcoming season, including Scandals Week, A Week of Remembrance and Fabulous Fortunes, all featuring programs produced exclusively for the network.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 9 p.m., History will present a lineup of historical movies. Upcoming acquisitions include jfk, The Bounty, Day of the Jackal, Under Fire and Alexander the Great.

Specials programmed for the new season include Rebels: A Journey Underground, hosted by Keifer Sutherland, an exploration of the lives and exploits of those who lived and died by their own rules, from beatniks to Greenpeace activists. History also has the national broadcast premiere of the four-hour miniseries 1812.
