Montreal: The Canadian Association of Film Distributors and Exporters has re-elected Victor Loewy of Alliance Atlantis Releasing and Stephen Greenberg of Motion International as association co-chairs.
Helena Cynamon, Forefront Theatrical International, is the new secretary. Michel Mosca, France Film, is treasurer and Richard Paradis is cafde’s president. The new board was elected at the annual meeting late last month.
Paradis says cafde is waiting for a cftpa internal survey to determine whether tv distributors in the cftpa will join under the cafde banner.
‘We think that because of a lot of the issues coming up like broadcasters wanting to become distributors that it’s important for the independent distribution sector to be well defended,’ says Paradis. ‘And we think we can do the job. We know they [cftpa] have created an internal [distribution] committee but we’re trying to convince them that their interests would be better defended by a larger national organization. If there is going to be an alliance we’d like to announce it at Banff.’
Paradis, who says cafde currently has nine members, says about 10 additional midsized companies in tv distribution could be interested in joining. He says an expanded cafde would have distinct film and tv committees.
