Greenberg development $$ go to 19

Montreal: The latest round of script development and senior projects money at the Harold Greenberg Fund totaling $177,000 has been spread among 19 feature film projects

Among the projects receiving assistance are He’s One, Too, a new screenplay from Thom Fitzgerald; Possible Worlds, the first feature script from playwright John Mighton based on his Governor-General award-winning play of the same name; and The War In My Backyard, a film being developed by Montreal’s Cinar Films.

Fitzgerald’s He’s One, Too is based on a story by Allan Gurganus in which a successful gay writer is haunted by the memory of his boyhood idol who was arrested for sexually touching a teen boy in the 1950s. Emotion Pictures is producing.

Mighton’s Possible Worlds will be directed by veteran Robert Lepage and produced by The East Side Film Company. The murder-mystery follows the discovery of a body with its brain missing and questions themes of reality, personality and relationships.

The War In My Backyard is scripted by David Preston and based on the book La Guerre dans ma coeur by Kees Vanderheyden. It’s the tale of a young man and his family trying to survive the last year of wwii in Holland.

Other projects picking up funding include D. Day Film Productions’ A Wake In Brooklyn, written by Bonnie Buxton and Deborah Day, in which three sisters and their mother spend a wild weekend in New York; Over The Falls, about taxidermy, love and a kidnapping gone wrong, penned by Michael McGowan and produced by Mainline Pictures; and The Two Charlies, a coming-of-age tale about a young boy and his grandfather, written by Chuck Shamata and produced by Stornoway Productions.

Also receiving assistance are The Waterworks Pond, written by Marc Strange and produced by Cellar Door Productions, about a young boy with a vivid imagination who spends the summer devising ways to capture an alligator in a pond in rural Ontario; and Look Both Ways, written by Rosamund Own and produced by Helen du Tois, about a young girl whose father turns to fundamentalist religion after her mother dies.
