The scheduled spring debut of Cover Me, an indigenous Canadian drama produced by Alliance Atlantis Communications, has been put off until next fall by its broadcaster the cbc.
Slawko Klymkiw, cbc executive director, network programming, says the political intrigue drama was moved because the pubcaster felt it could perform better in the fall with the benefit of a strong promotional campaign. Klymkiw adds that an autumn debut will also ensure that the cbc has enough ‘new content in the fall’ to promote a large-scale season launch.
With the cbc moving away from six- and four-pack series orders under Klymkiw’s tenure, more episodes of Cover Me are expected to be ordered and added to the six already shot.
While Klymkiw will not confirm an order for more episodes, he says finances are the only obstacle to additional Cover Me episodes. ‘If you wake up next fall and there’s only six, that will be because that’s all we could afford,’ he says.
Series executive producer Robert Lantos of Serendipity Point receives a producers fee of $25,000 for every Cover Me episode completed.
