It’s not This Hour Has 22 Minutes, but it’s not bad for this year’s Cancon media darlings, DaVinci’s Inquest and Made In Canada.
Although both series failed to hold their opening night numbers – 881,000 viewers 18+ for Chris Haddock/Barna-Alper Productions’ DaVinci and 935,000 viewers 18+ for Salter Street Films’ Made In Canada – DaVinci is registering a 778,143 average viewership at the end of episode seven while Made In Canada clocked a 664,500 average through its short six-episode life span.
According to the most recent statistics available from Nielsen Media Research, the latest DaVinci topped its premiere night with 951,000 viewers 18+ on Nov. 18, due in part to a blessing from Broadcast Week’s John Doyle in his weekly Critical List.
For the weeks working back from Nov. 18, DaVinci numbers run to 691,000 for Nov. 11, 775,000 (Nov. 4), 645,000 (Oct. 28), 662,000 (Oct. 21), and 842,000 for Oct. 14. It’s consistently up against Party of Five on Global and The Drew Carey Show on ctv.
Made In Canada took a dive in episodes two and three, slipping to 594,000 and 465,000 on Oct. 14 and 21, respectively, after premiering at more than 900,000 viewers 18+. It climbed back through episodes four, five and six, with the final episode Nov. 11 running 702,000 viewers. Nov. 4 came in at 660,000 for the same demo; Oct. 28, 631,000. Made in Canada competed Monday nights with Melrose Place on ctv and Mad About You on Global. Season two is in production.
Over at ctv, the news isn’t exactly sparkling around the critically acclaimed Power Play (Alliance Atlantis). Although ctv reports a decent 562,000 viewers 18+ average for the first three episodes, word is that later episodes are taking a beating from Friends.
The series, thought on its last legs going into this season, has been resurrected with the Monica/Chandler storyline and is logging ratings up some 20% this season over last. The latest Power Play episodes reportedly come in under 500,000 viewers on the Nielsen meters. ctv is considering a scheduling change.
