The nominees are. . .

Twenty English- and 15 French-language programs have been chosen from more than 80 entries to compete for this year’s Alliance for Children and Television’s Award of Excellence. Winners will be announced Nov. 7 at Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel.

English-language

In the English-language competition, Nelvana and Cinar lead the pack with four nominations each.

In the preschool animation category, Nelvana’s Little Bear ‘Search for Spring’ and Franklin ‘Franklin Goes to School’ (produced with Neurones Corree and Toon Image) are up against Cinar’s Caillou ‘Caillou’s Hiding Place’ and Cochran Entertainment’s Theodore Tugboat ‘Hank’s Funny Feeling.’

Nominated in the school-age animation category are Cinar’s Arthur ‘Arthur Meets Mr. Rogers/Draw!’ and Animal Crackers ‘High Gnu’in/Eu-Genial,’ Nelvana’s Ned’s Newt ‘The Most Grating Show on Earth'(with TMO Film GmbH) and Stickin’ Around ‘Lights Out’ and The Littlest Angel Christmas Special from Cambium Film and Video Productions/Delaney and Friends Cartoon.

In the information and instructional category, tvontario has two shows in the running – Inquiring Minds and Peace Breaks. Also up for the award is cbc’s Street Cents ‘Sports,’ SDA Productions’ Popular Mechanics for Kids ‘Electricity,’ Sound Venture Productions’ Get A Life and Adobe Productions’ Rainmakers ‘Rainmakers New York.’

Devine Entertainment’s Einstein: Light to the Power of 2 and Galileo: On The Shoulders of Giants from The Inventors’ Specials are nominated under drama along with Cinar/Salter Street’s Emily of New Moon ‘The Sound of Silence,’ Minds Eye Pictures’ ‘Incredible Story Studio ‘Bedeviled’ and Insight Production’s Ready or Not ‘Your Fifteen Minutes Are Up.’

French-language

Leading the French-language nominees is Cinar with three shows in the running, all in the preschool and animation category: Caillou ‘Caillou fait du camping,’ Betes a craquer ‘Dodo Detective/Tel esprit qui croyait prendre’ and Arthur ‘Le Mystere de la boule de neige/Problem d’equipe.’ It is up against Cactus Animation/ Ellipse Animation’s Fennec ‘Fennec perd la partie,’ Cine-Groupe’s S.O.S. bout du monde ‘Coup de chaleur sur la chaine du froid’ and Radio-Canada’s La Boite a lunch ‘Voyage: a la plage j’apporte’.

In the information and instructional category, nominees are sda’s Sur la piste ‘La Peur’ and Allo Prof ‘La Racontre des cultures,’ src’s Betes pas betes ‘Au chalet’ and Cirrus Productions’ Generation W ‘Mystere et boule de gomme.’

Under drama, the nominees are Allegro Films’ Les Adventures de la courte echelle ‘Le 100% d’Ani Croche, Cirrus’ Lapoisse et Jobard ‘Lapoisse est un genie’ and Les Productions Tele-Action’s Radio Enfer ‘Glorie ephemere.’

And vying for the award in variety/special category are src’s Musikotrip and Match tv’s Le Studio ‘Les Dubmatique.’
