Red Sky inks Stratosphere

Vancouver: At the Toronto International Film Festival, Vancouver distributor Red Sky Entertainment finally confirmed its output deal with New York-based distributor Stratosphere Entertainment.

The two-year deal allows Red Sky to distribute all Stratosphere Entertainment product – including theatrical, pay and free television and home video – in Canada.

The first film is the police drama One Tough Cop, produced by Martin Bregman (Scarface), directed by Bruno Barreto (Four Days in September) and starring Stephen Baldwin (The Usual Suspects), Chris Penn (True Romance) and Gina Gershon (Bound). It opens Oct. 9.

Among the Stratosphere films to be distributed by Red Sky are L’Ecole de la Chair (The School of Flesh) by director Benoit Jacquot (Seventh Heaven) and actor Isabelle Huppert (The Story of Women); Hideous Kinky by director Gilles Mackinnon (The Playboys) and starring Kate Winslet (Titanic); and German-made black comedy Bandits about four woman who form a rock band in prison.

Other titles include The Boys, a drama by director Rowan Woods based on the play by Gordon Graham; The Inheritors, a turn-of-the-century Austrian story; Six Ways to Sunday, a black comedy about the Jewish mob; and Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl, a story of unrequited love between a Chinese woman and a Mongolian horse breaker.
