The Toronto International Film Festival Group’s Film Circuit and the National Film Board launched a cross-Canada tour of the restored version of Claude Jutra’s 1971 classic Mon Oncle Antoine simultaneously at Toronto’s Cumberland Theatre and Montreal’s Loews and the Parisien theaters Jan. 16.
According to the Film Circuit, a $50,000 gross is the average box office total for a typical Canadian release and this figure is the target for the three-print rerelease. After the first three weeks, roughly one-third of this amount or $16,500 has been accumulated.
The film moves on to Vancouver, Ottawa and Quebec City, tentatively slated for Feb. 20, followed by Victoria, Halifax and Sherbrooke, and in March, Winnipeg and Waterloo.
Marketing support rings in at $30,000, as well as promotional assistance from the nfb, the Tiff Group and Famous Players theaters.
An nfb film, Mon Oncle Antoine was produced by Marc Beaudet from a screenplay by Clement Perron and adapted by Jutra and Perron.
