News Brief: Space licenses First Wave

Space: The Imagination Station has licensed Vidatron Entertainment sci-fi series First Wave.

The 22-episode, hour-long drama series, produced in association with Pearson Television International, is the first independently produced Canadian series scheduled for broadcast on Space, premiering fall ’98.

Created by Chris Brancato (X-Files, Outer Limits), First Wave centers on the one man who can save the Earth from a hostile takeover by aliens posing as humans. Branded a lunatic, he goes underground to try to convince the world that these aliens are seeking the destruction of humankind.

Francis Ford Coppola will exec produce with Brancato and Vidatron’s Larry Sugar (Apocalypse Now).

A Vancouver location shoot is scheduled for early ’98.

First Wave will be broadcast on other chum tv stations.
