Arthur, Monster cop ACT awards

Industry leaders, producers, directors and writers converged on cbc’s Glenn Gould Studio Nov. 8 to celebrate this year’s Alliance for Children and Television Award of Excellence winners.

In the English-language category, Cinar’s Arthur for tvontario won for best preschool animation while Monster by Mistake from Cambium Film and Video Productions/Catapult Productions garnered best school-age animation.

Paragon Entertainment’s Kratts’ Creatures for tvontario and cbc’s Street Cents ‘Sports’ tied for best information.

Hammytime II Productions’ Once Upon A Hamster for ytv took home the best preschool award and Insight Productions’ Ready Or Not for Global was named best drama.

In the French category, Cine-Groupe j.p.’s Quasimodo for Radio-Canada won for animation, Productions Modus tv’s Generation w for Canal Famille captured best information, and Cinar’s La Maison de Ouimzie ‘Vive La Difference’ for Tele-Quebec and Radio-Canada picked up the best preschool award.

Productions sda’s Allo Prof for t-q took the instructional prize and Les Productions Prisma’s Les Zigotos for Canal Famille captured best variety/special.

The ceremony, hosted by Shaun Majumder (Brainwash, ytv), Scott Yaphe (YTV Achievement Awards), Melyssa Ade (Master Control, bbs) and Alain Boisvert and Stephanie Broschart (Mega tfo, tvo) capped act’s annual conference featuring workshops on effective scriptwriting, television production and working with existing policies and regulations.
