*Quebec box office reports
Christian Duguay’s The Assignment grossed $64,645 on its opening three-day weekend on six Quebec screens. Shot mostly on location in Montreal, the Allegro Films espionage-actioner opened Sept. 26 in the u.s. (via Sony) and English Canada, where it had a limited 34-screen release and opening weekend receipts of $178,443. The per screen average is $5,248. The Assignment is distributed by Motion International.
Michel Poulette’s film noir thriller La Conciergerie (CFP Distribution) opened Sept. 26 in Quebec on 33 screens with a bigger than average marketing campaign. The film had a cumulative box office of $138,917 after the first 10 days. Despite first-rate reviews, the Canada/European coproduction Clandestins (Motion) slipped to $41,000 after five weeks. Hopes for cfp’s fall theatrical slate otherwise rest on the French comedy hit La verite si je mens. As of Oct. 5, it had a combined box office of $17,460 on three screens.
Overseas, Georges Mihalka’s l’Homme ideal (cfp) is among the top 10 at the box office in France with cumulative receipts of over $500,000.
