A generous helping of Canadian projects was among the list of finalists for the 1996 International Teleproduction Society’s Monitor Awards, including four nominations for Toronto facility Magnetic South.
Magnetic earned two finalist nominations in the category of best editor for tape-originated tv special, with Andre Brunger nominated for the Van Halen Balance World Tour special and Craig Bateman for Sunset Boulevard ‘From Movie to Musical.’ Magnetic is also a finalist for its work on the Van Halen Balance World Tour special in the categories of best achievement in tape-originated tv specials and best audio post-production in tape-originated tv specials.
Associated Producers’ The Plague Fighters is a finalist for best achievement in documentaries as well as best director in documentaries for Ric Esther Bienstock.
The ‘Nobody Shows’ psa submitted by The Players Film Company of Toronto is nominated for best achievement in local commercials and for best director in local commercials for Players’ David McNally.
Toronto’s C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures was recognized as a finalist in the categories of best electronic effects in film-originated tv specials for Alliance’s Shock Treatment pilot and for best achievement in show reels.
The Canada/Japan coproduction Hiroshima, produced by Telescene Film Group, Daiei Company and Cine Bazar and submitted by Montreal’s Supersuite, is a finalist for best achievement in film-originated tv specials.
Kurt Vonnegut’s Harrison Bergeron, submitted by producer Atlantis Films, is a finalist in the best audio post-production in film-originated tv specials category.
A nomination for best 3D computer effects/animation in opens, closes and titles goes to Picture Windows, submitted by Toronto’s Dome Productions.
Director Michael McNeil from Toronto’s bigbrand TV is nominated for a trailer for cbc’s Net Worth in the category of best director in promotional non-broadcast, and Montreal’s Centre de montage electronique is a finalist for best electronic special effects in promotional non-broadcast.
The Monitor Awards, which recognize achievement in all aspects of teleproduction and digital media, will be held this year on Sept. 6 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
The its has also issued the call for entry for the 1997 Monitor Awards, allowing a new early-bird deadline of Sept. 30, 1996 before the final deadline of Jan. 31, 1997.
