Filming is now underway in Montreal before the production heads to Morocco and Nepal.

Cameras are rolling on 1995, a continuation of Quebec filmmaker Ricardo Trogi’s series of autobiographical features.

Principal photography began Tuesday (Oct. 10) in Montreal, and will move to Morocco and Nepal before wrapping on Dec. 12, according to a news release.

The title is writer-director Trogi’s ninth feature, and is produced by Marie-Claude Poulin of Sphere Films. Immina Films is the distributor in Canada, with Amuz Distribution handling international sales.

Production on the film is supported by SODEC, Telefilm Canada, Radio-Canada, the Quebecor Fund, as well as provincial and federal tax credits. The film is expected to be released in summer 2024.

Jean-Carl Boucher reprises the series’ lead role, a fictionalized version of Trogi who embarks on a journey to shoot 20 short films around the world as a contestant on a Radio-Canada reality series.

Other returning cast members are Sandrine Bisson, Claudio Colangelo and Rose Adam, and additional cast members include Shadi Janho, Myriam Gaboury, Mickaël Gouin, Olivier Aubin, Marie-Josée Bastien, Francis-William Rhéaume and Guillaume Gauthier.

Trogi has written and directed three previous films in the series, beginning with 1981 in 2009, followed by 1987 in 2014. The third film, 1991, was the highest-grossing Canadian film in the 2018 box office, earning more than $3 million. The trio of films were previously produced by Go Films, which was acquired by Sphere Films in 2018.
