First Leos a wrap

Vancouver: The statuettes weren’t ready for the winners, but spirits were high nonetheless for the first annual Leo Awards, sponsored by the B.C. Motion Picture Association May 5.

In the film categories, Little Criminals captured four Leos for best male performance (Brendan Fletcher), best screenwriter (Dennis Foon), best editor (Alison Grace) and best production designer (Lawrence Collett).

The War Between Us won for best dramatic production, best director (Anne Wheeler) and best sound (Gail McLean).

Best female performer, Deanna Milligan, won for Once in a Blue Moon, which also captured best score (Jim Guttridge and Daryl Bennett of Ferocious Fish Productions).

Best cinematography went to Vic Sarin for Urban Safari.

In the tv categories, Madison was named best series. Madison actor Sarah Strange was also named best female performance.

The Highlander series took three Leos including best screenwriter (David Tynan), best male performance (Jim Byrnes) and best director (Charles Wilkinson).

The Outer Limits’ Phil Linzey won for best cinematographer. Eight technicians from Lonesome Dove shared best sound honors.
