Gusto TV has unveiled its winter 23/24 slate, which includes eight new shows, one returning series and an anthology.
The series are all slated to premiere later this year.
Bring on the Karbs (6 x 60 minutes), Eva’s Bee (8 x 30 minutes), Inside & Out (8 x 30 minutes), Mucho Machado (8 x 30 minutes), The Lineup: Cheeseburgers of the World, Food News, Corktales (8 x 30 minutes), and Zach Kinda Cooks (8 x 30 minutes) are among new shows coming to Gusto.
Rounding out the lineup of new shows are Feed My Soul…V! (14 × 30 minutes) and The Wizard of Whatever (14 × 30 minutes), which were previously announced in Gusto’s Fall 2023 lineup, but saw their premieres pushed to 2024, a spokesperson for Gusto said. BLITZ! (10 x 60 minutes) returns for a third season.
The slate also includes Gusto TV Studios Presents (pictured), which is an anthology of “separate but related shows,” according to a news release. It includes Bring on the Karbs and Eva’s Bee, among others.
Black Community Mixtapes wins Silver Anthem Award
Filmmakers and OYA Media Group and OYA Black Arts Coalition (OBAC) co-founders Ngardy Conteh George and Alison Duke have won the Silver Anthem Award for the web series Black Community Mixtapes.
Black Community Mixtapes is directed and produced by Conteh George and Duke. The series follows two black filmmakers as they seek to shine a light on Black social movements in Canada.
The web series was nominated under the Education, Art & Culture – Film, Video, Television or Show category. The award was announced in a ceremony on Jan. 30.
The Anthem Award accepts works across five areas of impact including awareness and media, fundraising, community engagement, product, innovation and service, and team and leadership.
CMF, Telefilm, NFB join Magnify Digital’s Audience Development Pilot program
The Canada Media Fund (CMF), Telefilm Canada, and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) have joined founding sponsors Bell Fund, Shaw Rocket Fund, and TELUS Fund to boost Magnify Digital’s Audience Development Pilot program.
The program leverages Magnify’s analytics platform ScreenMiner to provide producers and filmmakers audience data and enhance their marketing strategies.
Selected projects funded by Bell Fund, the NFB, Shaw Rocket Fund, and TELUS Fund receive a free 24-month subscription to ScreenMiner, while prodcos funded by CMF and Telefilm may apply for a limited number of subs.
Rogers extends funding for BSO’s storytelling fund
Rogers Group of Funds is extending its funding support to the Black Screen Office’s (BSO) storytelling fund with a commitment of $900,000 over the next three years.
The Rogers-BSO Script Development Fund supports Black and People of Colour storytellers through all stages of the writing process, up to the creation of pitch-ready projects.
The fund, which is administered by the Canadian Independent Screen Fund for BPOC Creators, has supported more than 45 projects to date.
