While the greater part of cbc president Perrin Beatty’s proposed restructuring plans for the network have yet to be approved by the board of directors, Beatty revealed a senior-level shuffle to his staff in a memo Nov. 14, announcing four vp positions cut and two more to follow.
The position of vp of communications and public affairs, vacated by Robert Patillo last month when he moved over to Alliance Communications, will not be filled. The other vp positions to go are: planning and regulatory affairs, finance and administration, and engineering, currently held by Brian Baldry.
The engineering department will be reorganized under the guidance of Baldry, who is now senior director of the division. vp of media Michael McEwen has been moved over to Beatty’s office where he will operate as the president’s senior adviser. The position will be filled in the future.
Beatty has tightened his control by designating himself in charge of vp human resources Charles Gendron and the internal auditor. Also, with the departure of vp of business affairs and corporate development John Shewbridge, the responsibilities of business development will be handed over to Beatty’s office.
Details of the implementation of the $227 million cut to cbc will be announced in the week of Nov. 20.
