Quebec on Net

Montreal: Interjet, Jet Films’ multimedia division, and two partner operations have launched an interactive Internet service promoting Quebec’s cultural industries, including the film and television production sector.

Quebec Live! is the first of several planned Quebec region-specific services to go online, says Barry Bittle, president of Iron Hills Productions, the project’s originator and a partner with Interjet’s marketing vp Guy Laflamme and insanely interactive systems, a complete Internet solution company represented by Ross Lowe, iis president.

Quebec Live! will publish in both French and English and covers sectors ranging from current film and tv production to multimedia, music, dance and theater.

Bittle says Quebec commercial production and location services, including rentals and studios, are also part of the package. Listings are free, but Bittle says revenues will flow from ‘as many as 100 clients who have committed to investing in additional advertising pages.’

The additional page service includes a fax return facility, online e-mail and online catalogue, reservation and order-form response.

The consortium has hired former sogic film vp Robert Brisebois to pursue funding opportunities with sodec.

The Quebec funding agency is a consultant to the government’s $50 million Fonds de l’autoroute de l’information, an industrial production and distribution fund, and has been mandated to create guidelines for a tax credit, and set up a selective aid program for certified multimedia projects.

Laflamme says 4,000 to 5,000 companies will be listed in Quebec Live!

Lowe’s company, founded by former employees of Eicon Technology, went online in January and claims 60,000 hits per week, primarily for a City of Montreal page. Lowe says the next generation World Wide Web language, Hot Java, will feature high-resolution 3D imaging capability, a major advance over the current Hypertext. He says hj is 18 to 24 months away.
