moves to
Cinelande
Montreal: Richard Ciupka, a Montreal-based commercial, tv and feature film director, has crossed over from Figaro Films to join commercial production house Cinelande.
‘I finally gave in to (Cinelande producer) Andre Viau who made me a great offer,’ says Ciupka, who spent three years with Figaro. ‘I’m basically a people director,’ he says, ‘but as a cameraman I can also make pretty pictures.’
Ciupka is the director behind one of the season’s most evocative spots, ‘Alice,’ which features a cute little telephone-talking girl in a board for McDonald’s Restaurants and agency Cossette. Other reel highlights include commercials for gm’s Geo and Cossette, a theatrical and tv spot for Nicorette and Allard Communication, and a Miller Genuine Draft pool.
Ciupka directed the 10-hour Canada/France drama series Mourir d’amour, broadcast on Radio-Quebec and FR 3 in France, and is slated to shoot a new Television Quatre Saisons miniseries about a female serial killer in July and August.
Ciupka joins a growing list of Montreal-based directors at Cinelande, including Charles Biname, Lyne Charlebois, recent winner of the Juno Award for best videoclip (‘Go Van Gogh’), Jean-Marc Piche, Erik Canuel, Serge Jacques and Francois Girard. LRB
