Thomas, Worrall shoot Kokanee Beer
Starting in the West: Cactus Productions’ director Rob Thomas and cameraman Bruce Worrall shot a pool of spots for Kokanee Beer out of Scali McCabe Sloves, Vancouver.
At Radke Films in Toronto, director Phil Kates has been keeping busy. Kates, with Doug Koch on camera, had six days for Eggo out of Leo Burnett Chicago. He also picked up three days for Kellogg’s Chocos through J. Walter Thompson, Frankfurt. Director/dop Bob Perks shot five days for Nissan, Japan, and J. Wesley Jones donned his director/dop hat for a spot for Labatt Ice. Also at Radke, John Mastromonaco directed two days for Cool Whip. The spot, shot by cameraman Gabor Tarko, was out of McKim Baker Lovick/bbdo, Toronto.
Doug Moshoian of The Directors Film Company had a day for McDonald’s, with George Willis as dop. The job was out of Cossette. Also at Directors, director/dop Alex Fernbach had two days for Brita Water Filters through Young and Rubicam.
The Players Film Company’s Barry Parrell directed a spot for Wrigley’s Hubba Bubba out of Leo Burnett, with David McNally on camera. The one-day shoot was posted by Chris Van Dyke.
Derek Vanlint of Derek Van Lint and Associates was in Vancouver to direct and shoot a spot for BC Tel out of mbl/bbdo. The spot, edited by Andy Attalai of Chameleon, will promote this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
At Apple Box Productions, Stephen Onyett picked up a day for Windex through DDB Needham Worldwide. James Gardner was dop and Alex Eaton handled editing.
Boris Damast of Damast Gordon and Associates just completed two spots for cbs out of Jacobs and Gerber. The jobs, for Dave’s World and Murphy Brown, were shot in Los Angeles.
At Avion Films, dop Stanley Mestel and director Scott Dube picked up a day for the Egg Marketing Board through Geoffrey B. Roche.
At The Partners’ Film Company, Eric Yealland and dop Sean Valentini shot two days for McCann and Coca-Cola. David Hicks was editor.
Director/dop Michael Cuesta Jr. of The Artists Company picked up three days on his first Canadian shoot. The pool of spots, for Nabob, was out of Harrod and Mirlin. Alex Eaton of Third Floor Editing did post.
In Montreal, recent film action at La Fabrique d’Images includes dates for Molson O’Keefe, Culinar, Bell and La Brasserie Labatt.
Director Marc S. Grenier and dop Yves Belanger handled duties on a one-day Molson Dry musical cap spot out of Promo Marketing. Karim Waked was the director and Steve Danyluk the cinematographer on two attractive French tabletop 30s, ‘Raisins’and ‘Ble,’ for Cossette and Culinar’s Frulix. The music was by composer Philippe Leduc. Director Jean-Francois Pouliot and dop Danyluk teamed on a new round of Monsieur B./Bell long-distance commercials. The three-day shoot was posted by Postproductions Buzz, sound edited at Studio Marko and transferred at Supersuite.
Jacques Fournier directed ‘La Genie/Genie,’ a French/English 30 for the new 6.1% alcohol-content Labatt Bleue Dry and agency PNMD/Publitel. This big, three-day shoot features comedy and lots of special effects as three thirsty, young male beer drinkers learn there’s a price to pay for friendship when they call up a genie in a suit. The fun begins with the opening line, ‘This is your lucky day – you each get a wish!’ Elite handled casting duties and Buzz did the 3D and special effects. AstralTech supplied lab services and Supersuite did the film-to-tape transfer. Music was by Daniel Lussier.
At Cinelande, commercial action includes spots for Doritos Frit-o-Lay and Young et Rubicam, McDonald’s Restaurants and Cossette, and Weston/Fondations Jeunesse and agency Armada BSB Monde.
Veteran director Serge Jacques and busy dop Pierre Gill shot a one-day studio spot at Cinelande for Doritos called ‘Sur un arbre perche.’ The French 30 is a comedy loosely based on a Lafontaine fable. Actors Francois Massicotte and Mario Jean are featured.
The McDonald’s happy meal promo was shot by director Erik Canuel and dop Gill on location shoot in the Old Port of Montreal. And well-known Montreal music video director Lyne Charlebois and dop J.P. Trudel won the assignment on a new school dropout service message from Weston-sponsored Fondations Jeunesse.
