CBC appoints indie production directors

Taska Carrigan and Don Richardson have been appointed directors of independent production for the cbc – Carrigan for arts and entertainment, Richardson for news, current affairs and Newsworld.

Carrigan, a graduate of Dalhousie law school, was cbc deputy director of independent production, acquisitions and coproductions. Before joining the cbc, she worked with Atlantis Films.

Richardson has been with the cbc since 1972 and most recently held the post of assistant director of independent productions and acquisitions for news and current affairs.

TekWar thrillers

TekWar, based on the William Shatner-penned Tek thrillers, has been formally sealed as a series for the CTV Television Network with Atlantis Films, WIC Western International Communications and Shatner’s Lemli Productions producing. The 24-episode series, budgeted at $36 million total, $1.5 million per episode, will start shooting this summer in Toronto. Negotiations continue with mca/ Universal, one of the American production partners on the four TekWar films. The four films together will serve as pilots, airing on ctv in 1994/95, starting in early May.
