News from ‘tropical’ Vancouver: Cactus Productions’ director Andrea Fredrickson shot a spot for DowElanco from The Image Brokers in Calgary. Greg Middleton handled camera. John Stanley picked up two 30s for the Safeway Airmiles program from Palmer Jarvis, while Randy MacDonald had a spot for the BC Lottery Corporation from Scali McCabe Sloves. And director/ dop James Head had a 30 for Westel from J. Walter Thompson.
At The Partners’ Film Company, Shin Sugino has a day for The Stratford Film Festival from Ambrose Carr and one for Ford from Young and Rubicam. Director/dop George Morita picked up six days for Nestle from J. Walter Thompson’s Chilean office. Hobby Morrison wore the director/dop hats on a two-day shoot for Sunbeam bread out of New York.
At Chaos International, director Stu Hagemann shot a project for Crest from dmb&b. Peter Hartmann was the dop and Richard Unruh of Third Floor Editing did the post.
Tabletop director/dop Steve Bruni of L.T.B. Productions picked up a day for Swiss Chalet from Ambrose Carr, while compatriot Chris Nolan has two days for Electrasol from Backer Spielvogel Bates.
Director Sheldon Pilot, who directed the Famous People Players spot for FCB Ronalds Reynolds (last issue’s Commercial Directions), would like to add that dop Barry Parrel handled camera on the spot.
In Montreal, La Fabrique d’Images director Jacques Fournier helmed the action on ‘Micro-Mobile,’ an IBM Canada service message about school kids attending the country’s ‘first traveling computer school.’ The spot was produced for Blouin Coulombe Dube Thompson, with David Franco on board as dop.
Fabrique’s Karim Waked and dop Bernard Fougere shot a Musee des beaux arts de Montreal spot, out of Taxi, l’agence, promoting an exhibition of the high realism artworks of u.s. sculptor Duane Hanson. Georges Vezina did the off- and on-line edit at Buzz.
At Les Films Figaro, Claude Brie shot a tv commercial for popular ckoi-fm morning radio show, Y est trop de bonne heure. Jean-Pierre Trudel was the dop. The agency is La Boite a idees. Supersuite handled editing duties. Other recent action at Figaro included a 15- and a 30-second for La Brasserie Molson, directed by Glenn Bydwell.
At Jet Film, new staff director Michel David (ex of Films 24) is off to a fast start with assignments for Dunkin Donuts, Lebeau Auto and McCann Frozen Foods. The Dunkin Donuts spot was produced for BSB Armada Monde and agency 3B. J.P. Trudel was the dop. The McCann spot features homegrown talent and Montreal Expos pitcher Denis Boucher. For this shoot, elements of the Big O were recreated at the Panavision studios.
Also at Jet, Daniel Jaros, who recently ended a two-year relationship with Productions Diva, is set to helm the action on a new pool for Quebec Telephone and Montreal agency LG2. Jaros and dop Jean-Charles Tremblay will travel throughout the eastern and central Quebec regions covering the client’s service territory.
Other action includes a Lens Crafter commercial for director Neil McGregor, out of Doner Schur Peppler, and a Concessionaires Mazda pool for director Alastair Paton and busy dop David Franco. The Mazda pool is out of agency Auger Babeux/fcb. The commercials feature elaborate 3D animation and ultimatte sequences, created at DHD PostImages.
