For its 1994/95 term, the Writers Guild of Canada wants to reallocate its resources to better enforce its agreements, according to the wgc’s new president, Pete White.
The Independent Production Agreement will be up for negotiation again this fall, and both the wgc and the Canadian Independent Film and Television Production Association want the entire document re-examined.
The writers are concerned that ‘producers are not living up to the agreement, in particular, the payment of 4% of royalties which is already part of the ipa,’ says White.
That is one of the issues to be discussed, says Mireille Watson, cftpa director, industrial relations and member services. ‘But to be fair to producers, the writers guild hasn’t had a very good grasp or ability to determine what is owing. There is a certain lack of understanding,’ she says.
The Performers Guild agreement with the CFTPA also expires this year and will be up for renegotiation.
