NFB doc heads to U.S.

Ben Addelman and Samir Mallal’s doc Nollywood Babylon has been picked up in the U.S., and will see American screens this spring via Lorber HT Digital. The New York distributor — a new arrival that focuses on ‘transformative’ projects — picked up the feature doc following its screening at Sundance.

The deal was negotiated by the NFB’s Christina Rogers and by Richard Lorber and Elizabeth Sheldon for Lorber HT Digital.

The theatrical release is expected sometime in the second quarter, followed by a DVD through Lober’s home video label, Alive Mind, before the year is out.

The film documents the burgeoning but no-budget film community in Nigeria. ‘Nollywood Babylon celebrates the power of film to transform a culture and an industry,’ said Lorber in a release.
