The summer has been kind to Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm, which has claimed top spot among domestic titles at the Canadian box office for the past five weeks — first with Nitro, and now with the comedy Ma Tante Aline, which added another $274,448 in its second week in theaters.
The film placed 10th overall for the week of July 27 to Aug. 2, generating $635,944 in total box office earnings since opening July 20 on 65 screens in Quebec.
Aline, from Montreal director Gabriel Pelletier, stars Béatrice Picard (Dans les villes) as an elderly woman who refuses to go to an old-age home, and causes all sorts of trouble when she moves in with her career-oriented niece, played by Sylvie Léonard (Days of Darkness).
Nitro held steady at number two among domestic titles, earning another $142,803, for a total of $3.3 million after five weeks in theaters. The rest of the chart looks unchanged with Dinosaures 3D: Les géants de la Patagonie, at number three with $256,742, followed by Away from Her and A vos marques…Party!.
Among Hollywood-mades, The Simpsons Movie placed number one on the chart with $10.3 million, trailed by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Hairspray.
