Anne-Marie Losique

• Not one but two pay porn channels, stocked with Canadian content, will launch between now and the end of 2011, according to soft-core porn producer Anne-Marie Losique. The French-language channel Vanessa will debut on Oct. 28, according to a statement issued earlier this week, to be followed one year later by its English counterpart. Losique’s Sex Shop Television won CRTC approval for both channels in 2007 and 2009, respectively, with Cancon levels set at 20%. A similar channel, Northern Peaks, was okayed in 2008 for an Alberta company but has yet to launch.

Brent Butt starts work on his new movie in a few weeks, though it remains a mystery where the detective comedy No Clue will shoot. Shawn Williamson of Brighlight Pictures says he and the other producers haven’t yet decided between Toronto and Vancouver. The picture has a reported budget of $10 million.

• Ontario schools now have free, online access to films from the NFB, which has opened its Screening Room service to students and teachers. School boards previously had to order and pay for films through the Film Board.

• The 3D boom has sent Imax’s numbers to record heights. The wide-screen giant on Thursday posted first quarter profits of $26.6 million, fueled by recent 3D releases and its own theater expansion. The 3D version of Fox’s Avatar delivered $171.9 million for the three months ending March 31, followed by Disney’s Alice in Wonderland with $51.6 million.
