Global Television is sticking with its plans to air season one of Painkiller Jane this fall, though the B.C.-made action series has been cancelled by Sci Fi Channel for failing to draw an audience.

Jane, budgeted at $1.4 million per episode, premiered to lukewarm reviews April 13 on Sci Fi, and two weeks later on the CH stations, where it aired Thursdays at 10 p.m. CH relaunches as E! in September.

Jane is to cross over to Global this fall, where it’s slotted for Saturdays at 9 p.m. A spokesperson with the network says it still plans to air the first season.

Based on the comic book by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada, Jane stars Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3) as an undercover agent tasked with hunting down genetically enhanced individuals. It is produced by Vancouver’s Insight Film Studios and Kickstart Productions in Los Angeles.

Insight spokesperson Maryvonne Micale tells Playback Daily Jane‘s crew of 60 people will continue to work on other productions.

‘We’re so busy… we do four MOWs a month, so we just kind of roll over our people, and in fact sometimes we have to go outside the Insight family to hire crews because we don’t have enough,’ Micale says.

Sixteen instalments of Jane‘s 22-ep first season have aired so far on Sci Fi, with the series finale slated for Sept. 21. CH/E! has aired 11 episodes, but currently has no plans to air the remainder of Jane‘s first season.
