Julianne Moore last week won the best actress Oscar for Still Alice.

But David Cronenberg also gave Moore an awards season boost when her star-turn in his movie Maps to the Stars as a Hollywood film star from hell which earned her the best actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2014.

So Moore now finds herself among the latest presenters for the Canadian Screen Awards on March 1, and will be in Toronto to introduce Maps to the Stars to the CBC’s nationwide audience.

Maps to the Stars producer Martin Katz, who is also chairman of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, told Playback Daily on Wednesday he first invited Moore via her management to attend Canada’s screen awards early in the award season.

A few days later Katz heard back directly from Moore: she’d come up to Toronto if her schedule allowed.

“She had a lot going on,” Katz recalled.

But now, in a coup for the Canadian film and TV industry, which in the past often lacked the budget and clout to bring big Hollywood stars to add buzz-worthy glitz to its TV award shows, Moore will show up on the CBC telecast on Sunday night.

The Hollywood actor will be helpful introducing Maps to the Stars to Canadians. Cronenberg’s Hollywood satire is up for 11 film category nominations, just behind Xavier Dolan’s Mommy with 13 nods, and so is likely to be featured heavily during the CBC show.

Other final presenters added to the Canadian Screen Awards include Missy Peregrym, Kevin Durand, Mark Critch, George Stroumboulopoulos, Meaghan Rath and Emmanuel Kabongo.
